[headline_georgia_large_left color=”#000000″]Hey Friends,[/headline_georgia_large_left]

Can you imagine getting MORE and spending LESS?

What’s the catch, right?!

The truth is, you can actually get the incredible performance of synthetics and spend LESS. When you add up the costs of maintenance, down time, oil & filters, a top-quality synthetic actually totals up to LESS than conventional oil changes.

Isn’t that funny?  But Big Oil isn’t exactly going to post that on Facebook….

Big Oil has had it pretty good, don’t you think?  Most people are satisfied with “good enough”.  Most people accept 3k mile oil changes like death and taxes. That’s why lots of people send a good chunk of change off to Big Oil several times a year.  And Big Oil is happy to keep that money coming!

[headline_georgia_medium_left color=”#000000″]Aren’t Most Oils the Same?[/headline_georgia_medium_left]
Nope! Just like any other product you buy, they’re built for profit at a given price. For example, some use cheaper ingredients so they can be cheaper for you.

When you take your car for a conventional oil change, the “installer” often gives you whatever oil they can buy in bulk. Here’s the catch: they have a vested interest in having you come back…again, again…and again….

In fact, YOU are the only one with a vested interest in keeping your car running WELL for a LONG TIME, aren’t you? Think how many people want you to buy a new car! Aren’t mechanics kind of happy to see you coming? Every time an engine blows, SOMEONE gets his wings….

We’re all about “creating American jobs” but not that way, folks! Plus, you can buy American-made synthetics and rock THAT all the way to the bank.

[headline_georgia_medium_left color=”#000000″]Big Oil Is Good Enough, Isn’t It?[/headline_georgia_medium_left]
If you’re going for “good enough”, there’s lots of oils that can do the job. People washed their laundry with sticks and rocks for a long time, too, and that worked pretty good….

Conventional oils have served us well for generations. Oil guys got rich and built libraries. We honor you, standard oil! But times have changed. We can do a little better now. In fact, we can do a lot better! We don’t need to wash our laundry with sticks anymore!

Conventional oils did their job. It’s just that synthetics are designed specifically to function BETTER. They hold up better in extreme heat, function better in extreme cold…and that means longer engine life.

If you can switch to a better product for less than you’re already spending, why in the world wouldn’t you?

We won’t even START on all the reasons why you should question sending more money overseas.

Sometimes people stick with what they know just because they’re familiar with it. Anyway, let’s throw out those laundry sticks…and step up to what the kids are doing….

[headline_georgia_medium_left color=”#000000″]Should I Use a Synthetic Oil?[/headline_georgia_medium_left]
We think EVERYONE should switch to synthetics because they’re better for your engines & equipment…and also better for the environment.

The 3k mile myth is alive and well…even though many major car companies have recognized that synthetics perform very well with extended drain intervals. That means many people are changing oil several times a year. Just by switching to an extended interval synthetic, an average driver could save up to 20 quarts of oil PER YEAR!

Here’s why most people switch to synthetics:

[red_tick_list width=”100%”]

  • Better gas mileage
  • Less friction in the engine
  • Less engine wear…longer engine life
  • Lower engine temps
  • Less maintenance & downtime (changing oil at 7500, 10k or 25k miles instead of 3k)
  • Better performance in higher-temperature (severe) conditions
  • Performance at low temps…they ease the “cold-start” pain for engines
We’ve used AMSOIL synthetics in all of our engines and equipment since 1974. At that time, we were blown away by the results and that continues today.

If you truly don’t care how long your engine lasts (some people admit to that, when the economy’s good! They’d rather toss out a truck than take care of it) then synthetics might not be for you.

The actual dollar COST of synthetics is actually LESS than conventional oils, so unless you like killing engines, I’d say it’s worth it.

[headline_georgia_small_left]What’s funny is, people “in the know” have been using synthetics for a long time already.[/headline_georgia_small_left]

Jets, military vehicles and NASCAR teams all use synthetics.  Of course! They’re famous for a reason:

[red_arrow_list width=”100%”]

  • Less friction and wear in severe conditions
  • Lower engine temperatures
  • Easier cold starts
  • Better gas mileage

Back in the 1960s, Col. A.J. Amatuzio –AMSOIL’s Founder– noticed the incredible performance of synthetics in jet engines.  He wondered: could you get that same type of performance in a car?

That’s the type of question that sparks a revolution…and it did!

Back when most conventional oils were “good enough”, Amatuzio was driven to create something better. In 1972 AMZOIL became the first synthetic motor oil in the world to meet American Petroleum Institute criteria.  The new lubricant performed like no other before it.

Today, lots of brands offer some type of synthetic.  Don’t be fooled, though; An oil company can add just one drop of synthetic oil to a quart and call it a semi-synthetic.

[headline_georgia_medium_left color=”#000000″]Does the Oil Really Matter That Much?[/headline_georgia_medium_left]
ABSOLUTELY. Lubrication…or lack thereof…is one of the MAJOR causes of engine failure.

Engines and transmissions contain hundreds of moving parts. Their metal surfaces look smooth, but they’re actually full of tiny peaks and valleys. When the peak of one surface touches another it causes wear. Wear can lead to costly component damage or failure. Oil should help to minimize engine wear and prevent engine failure.

Conventional Oils Work Okay…But Not Perfectly

Conventional oils (like most people are familiar with) are refined from crude oil. Refining is the process of separating light oil components from heavy

Crude oil contains a full range of different kinds of molecules. Many are similar in weight but not structure. The refining process can’t distinguish such molecules, so conventional oil contains a wide assortment of molecules. Many of these crude oil molecules are not beneficial to the lubrication process. For example:

  • Paraffin causes refined lubricants to thicken and flow poorly in cold temperatures.
  • Molecules containing sulfur, nitrogen and other elements invite the formation of sludge and other byproducts of lubricant breakdown, especially in high temperatures

Sludge and breakdown by-products significantly increase wear rates. The different shapes of the assorted molecules of refined lubricants means lubricant surfaces are irregular at the molecular level. As lubricant layers flow across one another, these irregularities create friction…which consumes power, reduces fuel efficiency and increases heat and wear.

[headline_georgia_medium_left color=”#000000″]Why Do Synthetics Work Better?[/headline_georgia_medium_left]

Synthetics can be “designed” and tailored very specifically to the needs of everyday applications…such as automotive engines, commercial equipment or industrial machinery. Rather than being “good enough” for a certain application, they’re designed to give you peak power, performance and fuel economy.

Synthetic lubricants are chemically engineered from pure chemicals rather than refined from crude oil. Synthetics are built from base stocks that contain no sulfur, nitrogen or other elements that invite the formation of sludge. Synthetic lubricants can be used in higher temperatures than refined lubricants without breaking down. Because they resist breakdown, they can be used longer than refined lubricants.

They’re Uniform

The base stocks from which synthetic lubricants are made feature uniform and smooth molecular structures, which ensures low friction as lubricant layers slide across one another. Reduced friction increases energy through-put for greater fuel efficiency and power…and reduces heat and wear for longer equipment life.

Molecular uniformity also helps synthetics resist thinning in heat and thickening in cold. This helps them protect your engine better than refined oils over a system’s operating temperature range and helps ensure secure sealing.

Many different kinds of base stocks may be used to create synthetic lubricants, allowing a synthetic to be designed for virtually any application. Some base stocks are ideal for use in extremely cold environments, others are perfect for use in extreme heat. Some are extremely safe in applications in which refined lubricants pose a fire or explosion hazard. Refined oils simply do not offer the design flexibility synthetics offer.

[headline_georgia_medium_left color=”#000000″]So Which Synthetic is BEST?[/headline_georgia_medium_left]

Let’s see what makes for the “BEST Synthetic” Oil. How do you compare them?

A quality synthetic oil should:
[red_tick_list width=”100%”]

  • Minimize engine wear, especially in severe conditions
  • Combat acids and contaminants over extended drain intervals
  • Resist engine deposits and sludge, keeping the engine clean and efficient
  • Resist thickening
  • Perform well under extreme temperatures
  • Maintain fluidity in extremely LOW temperatures, producing less drag on moving parts

[headline_georgia_large_centered color=”#000000″]Check Out These Comparison Tests![/headline_georgia_large_centered]

11 Popular Brands Tested

Test #1 – Total Base Number.

As shown, the “Total Base Number” compares how well the oils combat acids and contaminants over extended periods (drain intervals). In this test, the higher TBN performs best.

Test #2 – Four Ball Wear

Compares the amount of engine wear allowed by each oil. With less engine wear, your equipment lasts longer and requires less maintenance. In this test, AMSOIL and Valvoline SynPower both did a great job of minimizing engine wear.

Test #3 – NOACK Volatility.

Compares how much the oil’s performance is affected over time and extreme conditions.

Test #4 – Thin Film Oxygen Uptake Test

The best synthetic oils should resist oxidation and resist engine deposits and sludge. Over time, the oil should maintain its consistency and not thicken.

Test #5 – Pour Point.

Even when it’s really cold, your oil should stay fluid so that your engine can easily start and run. Cold starts can be a killer for your engine! The best synthetic should stay fluid…and not thicken…even in extreme cold.
